The Nun is the newest movie in the Conjuring universe about a priest with a haunted past and a Nun on the threshold of her final vows
who are sent by the Vatican to investigate the death of a young nun in Romania and confront a male violent force in the form of a demonic nun. Ever since the nun was introduced in The Conjuring 2, fans of the movies wanted to know the backstory of the demonic nun. From the first teaser trailer to the scary advertisement on YouTube that was officially banned; people were excited to see what The Nun movie would offer. When the movie was finally released, people were very disappointed with the film and after seeing this movie, so was I. The performances by Demian Bichir, and Jonas Bloquet were not so good. The only performance that was good was the performance by Taissa Farmiga, and Bonnie Aarons as the demonic nun. The directing by Colin Hardy was terrible, and messy. The writing by Gary Dauberman and James Wan was good; however, the directing seems to have had negative impact on Dauberman and Wan’s script. The cinematography is good as always especially when it comes to the conjuring movies and prequels. There is one character who has no purpose whatsoever, except for being sort of the humorous character, (SPOILERS AHEAD) but it isn't until the end of the movie that we're shown why he was in the movie. Another issue, I have with this movie is that the demonic nun is almost not even in the movie. In fact, it appears that the Nun is in this movie about the same amount of time as “she” was in The Conjuring 2 film which was even more of a disappointment. This movie is just like the movie Annabelle that came out in 2014 and was the prequel to the first conjuring movie. The reason why I am comparing the two movies is because with Annabelle instead of giving the backstory to the doll the film gives us a plot that has almost nothing to do with Annabelle. In this movie, even though the film does give a little bit of information about the demonic nun, it just tells us what was already told in The Conjuring 2. Hopefully, if we get another prequel to this prequel, the next one will be a good film like how Annabelle: Creation was a better film to the first Annabelle movie. Overall, The Nun was a big disappointment and is not as good as its predecessor.
